The drywall screw is a specialized self-tapping screw with a cylindrical shaft. The point allows it to penetrate undrilled plaster. Though similar to wood screws, drywall screws typically have a smoother finish and a head which has a taper in the shape of an arc to keep drywall screws from cracking plaster.
