STEP BOLTS 
The step bolt is a carriage bolt with a wide, almost flat, smooth head. It is most commonly used in soft wood applications. The wide head makes it especially resistant to pulling through wood, while its near-flatness makes the bolt unobtrusive on walking surfaces.
